About

At “Come and Strum” children (and adults) bring their ukuleles to play (and sing) along together. The lyrics of the songs, together with the chords, are projected onto a large screen for the players to follow so no-one needs printed music. (Everyone is welcome to join in with the singing even if they are not playing an instrument.)

Although many of the organisers are experienced teachers and youth leaders, we not able to accept responsibility for the children at “Come and Strum” events, so parents/carers are expected to stay at the event with their children.

The main purpose of “Come and Strum” is to enjoy playing together and to have fun. Hopefully, everyone’s playing will improve a little bit, they will enjoy using their skills and be encouraged to develop them further. It’s fun to make music together.

Come and Strum” events are primarily arranged for ukulele players so the chord sequences used in the songs are chosen to be quite easily playable on the ukulele. During a “Come and Strum” session, songs will be a mix of those requiring a knowledge of only C, F and G chords (and even occasional one- or two-chord pieces) and pieces which use a wider range of chords. Organisers will try to take account of the overall level of the players present so that, as far as possible, there is something appropriate for everyone to enjoy. We want everyone to feel they have been able to make a contribution and feel that they have been able use their skills.

Although primarily intended for ukulele players (chord arrangements are created with the ukulele in mind) we will also welcome young guitar players. Our main aim, above all, is to promote participation in and enjoyment of music.
