Although there are many websites presenting song words and chords for songs, the lyrics and music of many songs are copyright and care must be taken not to infringe these rights as the originators have the right to benefit from their work.
This site is intended to be for children and others who are wanting to learn to play some songs before attending a “Come and Strum” event where children and others can play together to improve their skills and enjoy playing together.
Many of the songs shared here are “traditional” songs where no copyright holder is identified or are songs for which copyright has lapsed (normally 70 years after the death of the composer/lyricist).
We do, however, also want to use other, newer, songs – which will inevitably be subject to copyright restriction. Although these are often widely and freely available on the internet, we seek to avoid infringing copyright by:
– only displaying the minimum necessary (e.g. one verse/one chorus) for the players to learn the piece and thus avoiding use of a “substantial” part of the work
– using simplified chord arrangements (which are suitable for our intended audience and in line with purpose to provide these events and pages as an educational tool)
Questions or concerns from copyright holders may be made via our Contact Us page. Although we believe that we are only making “fair use” of material on this site, we will respond to legitimate objections by removing copyright material as quickly as we can.
